Getting Away

Getting Away

By:

The need to be on an open road

anywhere but here.

Just me, this .22, and my music—

so I don’t hear the cars passing me

while I’m driving through this tunnel.

No light yet on the other side,

could be stuck in this forever.

Nothing feels as bad as what you did to me.

The second I see your face—

It’s like I could

stand over your body,

no remorse.

I can spit on your face like you're tomorrow night’s meal.

You could be my life sentence but

at least I have something to prove.

Just like you’re living for something.

But something always turns to nothing in my life.

and I’m scared of what the future holds—

Even if it somehow holds beauty.

You made me who I am—

everything I stand for—an insult to your morals.

And now I’m coming to the end of the tunnel,

to the ashes of my life.
